How much can I save?

Is solar worth it in melbourne?

In the land famed for its radiant skies, Australia shines bright, and Melbourne, despite its cooler clime compared to other cities, basks in ample sunlight to make solar power a lucrative choice for Victorian homes. Remarkably, more than 500,000 households in Victoria have already embraced solar panels, contributing to approximately one-third of the residential electricity demand in the state.

The convergence of decreasing solar technology costs and generous government incentives for solar and battery systems transforms the switch to solar into an undeniable advantage for homeowners.

Understanding Your Solar Savings in Melbourne

The potential savings from installing solar panels in Melbourne or regional Victoria hinge on several factors, including your home’s energy consumption patterns and the strategic placement of your solar panels. The orientation, tilt, and any shade affecting the panels are crucial in maximizing electricity production and, by extension, your savings. Below, we provide an insight into the expected savings from adopting solar energy:

*Savings range estimate assumes consumption of 25% to 50% of the energy that is generated.

**Maximum savings assumes the consumption of $00% of the energy generated.

Embracing solar energy not only aligns with environmentally friendly practices but also offers significant financial benefits. With the right setup, Melbourne residents can enjoy reduced electricity bills, contributing to a sustainable future.

Make the smart switch to solar and join the growing number of Victorian households harnessing the power of the sun. Explore how solar panels in Melbourne can illuminate the path to energy independence and substantial savings.

Solar Victoria Rebates

Irresistible Incentives

Melbourne Government Rebates

Victorian residents have the unique opportunity to leverage a suite of solar energy incentives, tailored exclusively for them beyond the standard offerings like the feed-in tariff. These incentives underscore Victoria’s commitment to fostering a sustainable and renewable energy future:

  • Solar Panel (PV) System Rebate: This initiative empowers eligible households to embrace solar energy by offering a rebate of up to $1,400 on the installation of solar panel systems, making renewable energy more accessible and affordable. Further details are available here.

  • Solar Rebate for Rental Properties: Understanding the importance of inclusivity in renewable energy adoption, the Victorian government extends a similar rebate to rental properties. Subject to an agreement with tenants, landlords can benefit from a rebate of up to $1,400, encouraging the spread of solar energy across different housing types. More information on this rebate can be found here.

  • Interest-Free Battery Loan: In a significant boost to energy independence, Victorians can avail of an interest-free loan up to $8,800 for solar battery installations. This not only enhances energy efficiency but also ensures a reliable power supply. Discover more about this offer here.

  • Solar Hot Water Rebate: To further reduce energy bills and contribute to environmental conservation, consumers can claim a rebate of up to $1,000 on solar hot water systems. This rebate facilitates the transition to greener alternatives for water heating. Learn more about this opportunity here.

These incentives are a testament to Victoria’s proactive approach in reducing carbon footprints and promoting sustainable living through renewable energy sources.

How Solar Panels Work

In a Nutshell

How Solar Works.

Firstly, when the Sun is out and shining, the solar panels installed on your roof soak in and convert the energy that sits within its light into Direct Current (DC) electricity. This happens because, when the photons from sunlight strike the silicone cells in the solar panel, electrons are released. These freed electrons race around and, with the aid of an electric field, create energy in the process.

The electrons then flow through the panel and string, eventually making their way to the installed solar inverter. The inverter, then, takes this energy and converts the DC power from the panels to a usable 240-Volt Alternate Current (AC) electricity.

This AC power is then immediately passed through your house electrical network, and, as it is being generated, it is utilized to operate any household electrical appliances you may have on at the time.

You may be generating more electricity from your solar panels, at any given time, that required and used up to power your home. If that happens to be the case, in most Australian on-grid residential set-ups, the excess power produced by your system is fed back into the grid.

Electricity that gets fed back in to the grid is power you are essentially selling back to your electricity provider, which means your electricity provider will credit you for it on your power bill. This credit is referred to as a “feed-in-tariff”, and it may vary depending on what time of day your systems is feeding excess power into the grid.
